True or false: only tennis players get tennis elbow

A Physiotherapist assesses a patient in a bright clinic room

False

Tennis elbow is pain on the outside of the elbow, where the forearm muscles attach. Most people who get it don’t play tennis at all. Repeated gripping and wrist movements at work or at home are enough.

What helps

  • Reduce the load for a while: lighter bags, a larger mouse, more breaks.
  • A graded strengthening programme for the forearm.
  • Building it up over weeks, not days. Tendons adapt slowly.

This article is general information, not a diagnosis. If you're in pain, a Physiotherapist can assess you properly and tell you what will help.
