Getting ready for a knee replacement

The stronger and more mobile you are going into a knee replacement, the easier the first weeks afterwards tend to be. That is the idea behind pre-operation rehab, sometimes called prehab.

What to focus on

  • Strength in the thigh and hip muscles.
  • Getting the knee as straight as it comfortably goes.
  • Practising the exercises you will do after surgery, so they feel familiar.
  • Planning your home: clear walkways, a firm chair, things within reach.

Bring your surgeon’s plan to your first session and we will build the programme around it.
